Designer

Eri Shimatsuka

Born in Tokyo and based in Helsinki since 2007, Eri Shimatsuka is a versatile textile designer and illustrator who finds extraordinary beauty in the quiet, small events of everyday life. Her work serves as a poetic bridge between Japanese and Finnish design sensibilities, rooted in a mutual appreciation for nature’s seasonal shifts and the soul of traditional handicrafts. After moving to Finland to pursue her passion for Nordic design, Eri spent years honing her craft as a designer for Marimekko before establishing her own independent studio. Today, her signature style, a blend of playful motifs and serene compositions, can be found on everything from textiles to stationery for iconic brands like
Lapuan Kankurit and Finarte.

In addition to her design work, Eri is a prolific author and columnist, sharing the essence of Finnish lifestyle and design with Japanese audiences through her books and translations. For Finarte, she brings a gentle, joyful touch that resonates deeply in both of her home countries, proving that the language of simple, nature-inspired beauty is truly universal.
