The Finarte Apollo rug is a contemporary take on the Finnish rag rug tradition, designed by Eija Rasinmäki. Its woven pattern brings together dark and light beige, brown and blue, creating a vibrant yet balanced design that catches the eye and adds warmth to any interior.

Apollo was created during a time when there was a desire for larger and clearer patterns as a counterbalance to the traditional striping and multicolored look of rag rugs. This makes it especially well-suited for spacious interiors such as living rooms. The very first version of Apollo, called Aralia, was designed in 1985, the founding year of Finarte.

Handwoven from 100% upcycled cotton, Apollo combines sustainable materials with timeless craftsmanship. With its bold design and high-quality execution, it is a true design classic. Available also in larger sizes, Apollo works perfectly as a statement rug for living rooms and dining areas, while still fitting beautifully into kitchens and bedrooms.

Apollo is part of Finarte’s 40th Anniversary Collection. Each rug in the collection is a true treasure from the archives. With their timeless appeal, these designs have remained effortlessly beautiful for decades and will continue to inspire for many years to come.

Handcrafted sustainably in India.

Eija Rasinmäki

Eija Rasinmäki is an award-winning textile artist, the co-founder and senior designer of Finarte, and a true pioneer of modern Finnish textile art. Inspired by her mother’s weaving from a young age, Eija set out on a lifelong mission: to elevate the traditional Finnish rag rug from rustic cabins to sophisticated city homes. Since 1970, she has redefined the Finnish interior, establishing her own weaving mill in Finland and eventually co-founding Finarte in 1985 with her husband, Erkki Immonen.

Today, Eija continues to design for Finarte while maintaining her own factory, Kutomo Rasinmäki, where she creates bespoke, handcrafted commissions. Her iconic rugs are found in countless private homes and public spaces worldwide, from the Finnish Consulate in New York to the floors of international cultural icons. She is a true pioneer who transforms textiles into liveable art, a force to be reckoned with, and a firm believer in the power of color to heal the soul.
