Bevi is a hand-knotted wool rug designed by Ervin Latimer. Its surface is built through three distinct weave bindings, each contributing to a quiet complexity that reveals itself slowly – inviting you to pause, look closely, and experience the texture with bare hands and bare feet.
Three-dimensional, long-pile sections emerge across the surface, creating movement, depth and a tactile richness that shifts with light and perspective. The pattern and its framing structure are a Nordic interpretation of the traditional textiles and motifs of West Africa and the western regions of southern Africa – an attempt to forge a new, contemporary expression of an Afro-Finnish identity through the language of textile art.
