Ylitys is a colourful, handwoven recycled cotton rug designed by Tuula Kaakinen, winner of Finarte's 40th anniversary design competition in 2025. Its soft light pink base is brought to life by three-dimensional details in warm orange, lilac, pink and red tones, created through a combination of plain weave and rya knots – techniques that give the surface a rich, tactile depth and lively rhythm.
True to its name, Ylitys means crossing or exceeding in Finnish, the rya knot details extend beyond the rug's edge, as if the pattern itself refuses to be contained. The edges are neatly bound, giving the rug a clean, considered finish that contrasts beautifully with its expressive surface.
Easy to care for and suitable for hallways, kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms. Ylitys also makes a striking wall textile, where its three-dimensional surface can be fully appreciated.
