THE FIRST IMPRESSION OF A HOME

The entryway is a transitional space between the outside world and the home, and the rug placed there carries more responsibility than most. It protects the floor from dirt, moisture and wear, reduces cleaning elsewhere in the home by collecting loose debris at the door, and gives guests an immediate sense of the interior to come.

A well-chosen hallway rug is both practical and beautiful. It does not need to be the same rug in ten years' time, but it should be one that looks considered and holds up to daily use without showing it.

WHAT MATERIAL IS BEST FOR AN ENTRYWAY RUG?

The entryway sees more varied use than almost any other room. In a Finnish home this means wet boots in autumn, snow and salt in winter, sand in summer and daily footfall year round. The material of an entryway rug matters more here than anywhere else in the home.

Wool is a naturally resilient choice for a hallway rug. It repels dirt, handles moisture well and is straightforward to maintain with regular vacuuming and occasional spot cleaning. A wool entryway rug also adds warmth and a tactile quality that synthetic alternatives rarely match.

Recycled cotton is a practical and easy-care option, particularly for smaller entryways or spaces where the rug may need more frequent washing. Cotton rug surfaces are flat and tightly woven, making them simple to keep clean.

Jute is the most natural option in the Finarte collection and works well in entryways with moderate foot traffic. Its flat, tightly woven structure hides dirt well and its earthy texture adds character to the space. Jute is best suited to drier entryways rather than spaces that regularly see wet footwear.

WHAT SIZE ENTRYWAY RUG DO I NEED?

As a general guide, an entryway rug should be at least as wide as the door it sits in front of, ideally a little wider. If the standard sizes in the collection do not quite fit your entryway, most of Finarte's wool rugs can be made to measure. Visit our size guide for more detailed advice.

EASY-CARE RUGS FOR THE ENTRYWAY

An entryway rug needs to be easy to maintain. Finarte's flatwoven wool and recycled cotton rugs are among the most practical options in the collection for this reason. Their flat surfaces do not trap dirt in deep piles and are straightforward to vacuum, shake out or spot clean as needed.

COLOURFUL AND PATTERNED ENTRYWAY RUGS

The entryway is a good place to introduce a stronger colour or pattern than you might use elsewhere in the home. Because the space is transitional rather than a room people spend extended time in, a bolder rug can work well here without feeling overwhelming. Finarte's recycled cotton collection includes a wide range of patterns and colours that work particularly well as entryway rugs.
